Welcoming the New, Blessing the Past
Welcome 2022!
In the past, every New Year that arrived, I would have my goals, my life changes I wanted to achieve written down in the new journal I received from as a gift. My intention and desire to achieve the goals was sincere, in fact every year the goals were the same, lose weight, meet a man, etc. By February I had forgotten about those first few days in January, already caught up in the daily busyness of life.
What I have learned achieving our goals whatever they may be, will require skills. Skills that would take me beyond February. To lose weight I needed to learn about my body, relationship to food and so on, beginning the journey of self-awareness.
I believe it is important to have goals, there is an inspiring energy in the New year which is why many do it. The important part are the skills needed to achieve those goals. The skill of continuing to show up each day even when you believe there is no reason to. The skill of actively listening and seeing the people you encounter each day. The skill of allowing things to be as they are even though they suck and knowing it will change. The skill of setting boundaries and managing emotions.
If you have written down your goals for 2022 look at them again and see what skills may be needed to achieve those goals, what needs improving? The most important skill I continue to learn is self-knowledge, how I interact with the world, what is leading. I can only change what I know.
